Looking for a home remedy for head lice?

Thanks to a friend's experience getting rid of lice we have some effective home remedies for head lice to share with all of you.

When lice have entered your house and hair you want something that will work quick to get them right back out of your life.

More and more lice are becoming immune to the over the counter remedies, so using this lice home remedy may be one of the most effective things you can choose.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make a lice hair treatment:

  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Essential oils of citronella, lemon, thyme, rosemary, tea tree and lavender
  • Dr. Bonner's coconut castile peppermint soap
  • A very fine toothed comb

How to make and use these effective home remedies for head lice:

Hair rinse lice home remedy:

Mix together 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup olive oil, and 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol.

Add 10 drops of each of these essential oils: citronella, lemon, thyme, rosemary, and lavender. Add 20 drops of tea tree essential oil.

Rub this mixture into your hair until well coated (you will not need all of it for one person). Let it sit on your hair for 2-3 hours.

Next...

  1. In small container mix 1/2 cup Dr. Bonner's soap with 10-15 drops of tea tree oil.
  2. Use this mixture to wash the oil / alcohol mixture from your hair.
  3. Use your fine toothed comb to remove all lice and eggs from hair.
  4. Continue combing and washing daily (with the Dr. Bonner's soap mixture) for 2 - 3 weeks.
  5. Reapply the alcohol/oil mixture in 4 and 10 days to kill any new lice that may have hatched.

Furniture and Carpeting lice home remedy:
Now there's just the issue cleaning places in your home where lice may continue to live. They can live up to 3 days without contact with a human.

You will want to thoroughly vacuum all furniture and carpeting, and may want to steam clean them as well.

Clothing lice home remedy:
Wash all clothing that may have come in contact with the lice in hot water and dry in hot dryer. Any items that cannot take hot water treatment can be placed in a sealed plastic bag for a week or two.

Bedding lice home remedy:
Wash all bedding that may have come in contact with the lice in hot water and dry in a hot dryer. Vacuum mattresses and pillows.

Repeat bedding treatment daily for one week following hair treatment.

Stuffed animals can also be vacuumed and placed in sealed plastics bags for a week or two to make them lice free.

These home remedies for head lice do take some work, but in the end you will be rewarded with a lice free environment to live in once more and it will have been worth your effort and time.
